The Houston Astros are the official Major League Baseball team from Houston, Texas. The team joined the National League in 1962 and have been part of the Western Division since 1994. The players are recognized by their signature home colors, black, dark red and sand. The team plays its home games at their home stadium, which is the Minute Maid Ball Park, located in the heart of Houston. The stadium opened its doors to the public in 2000 and that’s when the Houston Astros became its official tenant. At the beginning of the teams’ establishment, they were known as the Houston Colt 45s, but a name change in 1962 resulted in the Houston Astros. Many fans love to refer to the Houston Astros as the Stros’.
The team’s name actually has a lot of significance in terms of the city they play in and the first stadium they first played at. The first stadium the team played at was the Astrodome, which obviously gave away the name. The significance of the team’s name actually lies in the fact that Houston plays an important role in the US Space Program. Overall, the team has managed to reach the World Series once, along with four Central Division titles, two Western Division titles and one National League Pennant. The team made it to the World Series in 2005 when they faced the Chicago White Sox in four games. Regardless of the outcome, the Houston Astros played an amazing set of games in the 2005 World Series. Wonder if the Houston Astros will be able to make it for the 2012 World Series?
Opened in 2000, the Minute Maid Ball Park is fully sponsored by the Minute Maid drink manufacturer and the Harris County-Houston Authority. The stadium seats about 40,000 fans with additional standing room for nearly 3000 fans. The Houston Astros have an attendance record at the ball park for selling out forty-three thousand seats for a single game in their 2010 season. The 2012 Houston Astros schedule is up for viewing, and if you’re going to be following the spring training sessions, you might want to consider checking out the 2012 Houston Astros spring training schedule as well. Tickets for the spring training session have already gone up for sale, but official season tickets will begin sales soon.
The Houston Astros will have a kick start to the 2012 season on April 3, with an exhibition game facing their rival Chicago White Sox. The two first exhibition games for the Houston Astros will take place on the third and fourth of April, which will be followed by a game on the sixth against the Colorado Rockies. The 2012 season for the Houston Astros will end off on October 3, which will lead into the 2012 playoffs.
