Based out of Kansas City, Missouri, the official Major League Baseball team representing the state is the Kansas City Royals. They are currently in the Central Division of the American League, which they joined in 1969. The team only came together as part of the Central Division in 1994, much like the other teams in that division. As of now, there are four retired numbers in the Kansas City Royals, with the recent number forty-two. The team is recognized by its light blue colors and the Royals writing on their uniform. Home games are played in white uniform with away games played in greyed out uniforms.
For the upcoming season, the 2012 Kansas City Royals schedule has been released and is available online. In terms of the past, the Kansas City Royals won their first World Series in 1985. The team currently have two American League pennants and six Central Division wins, with the most recent win in 1985. Up until the year 1985, the team did incredibly well, but it was after that when everything started drifting downhill. From the start of the team in 1969, they have remained in the same city and under the same name, which is unlike many of the other baseball teams.
The Kansas City Royals and St Louis Cardinals are rivals and have been since 1985, when the Royals took home the World Series title. There still is come controversy concerning the play in the ninth inning of Game 6 when the Royals played the Cardinals. Even today, after twenty-seven years, there is still that flare between the two teams. At every game these two teams play, you will notice a significant amount of commotion concerning this issue. In the period between 1976 and 1980, the New York Yankees met four times as they went head to head with the Royals. This again, is another rivalry that has stemmed since then and still exists.
As per the 2012 Kansas City Royals schedule, home games will be played at the Kauffman Stadium, which opened in 1973. Owned and operated by the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, it serves the entire city as the number one baseball field. The initial cost of the stadium was seventy million dollars, but major renovations took place between 2007 and 2010, which totaled close to two hundred and fifty million dollars. Due the recent modifications, seating at the stadium has been ranked up to about forty thousand. The name for the stadium comes from the team’s founder, Ewing Kauffman. Official season games for the Royals will begin on April 7.
